| Start your visit to the Centre with a watered powered railway ride. As you rise silently up to the 7 acre site it's hard to believe that this was once a derelict slate quarry. Now it's home to the best ideas in Alternative Technology. | ![]() |
![]() | C.A.T. first opened in 1975 to show practical ways to live in a more Earth friendly way. All the buildings are run by solar, wind and water power. Make your way around the exhibits and see how wind and wave machines work, how to heat with the power of the sun. New this year, the Theatre building made only of wood and straw. |
| But it's not just about machines, plants are essential to the Centre, see the greenhouses and gardens, underground exhibits in the mole hole and visit the animal enclosure. C.A.T. is popular with schools, and run a free programme of childrens events in the summer holidays. | ![]() |
| A free information service is available to help you with your own eco friendly projects. For large scale developments C.A.T. provide consultancy services. Also available, teacher packs, student discounts and group bookings service, residential courses and study programmes. For more information you can link to their site at www.cat.org.uk | |
